Biological Age vs Chronological Age: What Testing Can Tell You
Chronological age is the time since you were born. Biological age is an estimate based on selected biological measurements. It is not one universally agreed number, and different methods can produce different results. Understanding what was measured and how the estimate is interpreted matters more than treating the score as a verdict on your health.
Key takeaways
- Biological-age estimates depend on the measurements and model used.
- Telomere testing, DNA methylation clocks and organ-age research are distinct approaches, not interchangeable names for the same test.
- Getchecked Clinic uses blood-based TruDiagnostic DNA methylation testing and usually recommends the TruAge + TruHealth combination.
- Live Beyond 100™ Annual Membership starts from AED 4,950 and is separate from the one-off Biological Age Test.

What chronological and biological age mean
Chronological age is calculated from your date of birth. A biological-age estimate uses a particular set of measurements and an interpretive model. The name alone does not tell you which measurements were used, which population the model was developed in or what the result can establish.
Ask what the report measures directly and what it estimates. Do not interpret an age-related score as an exact number of years gained or lost.
Different measurement approaches
Telomere testing
Telomeres are structures at the ends of chromosomes. A test measuring telomere length concerns a different biological feature from a DNA methylation test. Ask about the sample, laboratory technique and reference information used to interpret the measurement.
DNA methylation clocks
DNA methylation approaches use patterns of chemical modifications to DNA within an age-related model. Horvath's paper, DNA methylation age of human tissues and cell types, is an example of the research background in this area. [1]
Named models such as GrimAge or DunedinPACE should not be treated as features automatically included in every biological-age test. A service needs to identify the actual method it provides before a result can be interpreted in that context.
Organ-age research
Organ-age estimates can be developed using different measurements and models. The paper Organ aging signatures in the plasma proteome track health and disease concerns organ-related signatures in blood-protein data, a different approach from TruDiagnostic's DNA methylation-based organ-system age estimates. These approaches should not be treated as interchangeable. [2] [3]
Biological-age testing at Getchecked Clinic
The Biological Age Test is a one-off testing option at Getchecked Clinic. The clinic uses a blood sample for TruDiagnostic's epigenetic testing, which analyses DNA methylation patterns to generate biological-age and related estimates. [3]
Getchecked Clinic usually recommends the TruAge + TruHealth combination. TruAge provides biological-age, ageing-speed and organ-system age estimates across 11 systems. TruHealth adds DNA methylation-derived functional-health insights across areas such as nutrition, inflammation and metabolic health. These are model-based estimates, not a substitute for direct clinical measurements or a diagnosis of organ health. [3]
Before booking, confirm the selected package, included reports, sample preparation, current fee and expected reporting time. The clinic's usual combination recommendation does not mean every standalone booking or annual membership automatically includes both reports.
Understanding the limits of a score
This guide does not present a biological-age score as a diagnosis, a prediction of lifespan or proof of the health of every organ. Ask your clinician which uses of the particular test have been validated and what uncertainty remains.
A difference between two reports should not automatically be described as ageing reversal. Ask whether the methods, samples and reporting approach are comparable, and whether a change would lead to a useful care decision.
How to discuss the findings with your clinician
Bring the report together with your medical history, medicines, previous results and the health questions you want to address. Ask how the result relates to established clinical measurements rather than replacing them.
A useful discussion should explain what was measured, what was estimated, what remains uncertain and whether further assessment or follow-up is appropriate. The goal is to support informed decisions, not to chase a single score.
Live Beyond 100™ Annual Membership — From AED 4,950
Live Beyond 100™ Annual Membership is separate from the one-off Biological Age Test. The starting membership price does not establish that the test, every assessment discussed on the programme page or any particular treatment is included.
Confirm the specific membership inclusions and any separate testing charges before committing. You can also contact Getchecked Clinic to discuss the test and its suitability for your circumstances.
Common questions
Is telomere testing the same as a methylation clock?
No. They concern different biological features. Getchecked Clinic uses TruDiagnostic's DNA methylation-based testing; a telomere-related estimate in an epigenetic report should not be assumed to be a separate direct telomere-length measurement.
Does the test tell me how long I will live?
This article does not present a score as a lifespan prediction. Ask what the particular test has been validated to assess and what it cannot establish.
Can I compare results from different companies?
First establish whether the methods, measurements, models and reference information are comparable. Do not assume that two reports using the term biological age provide the same measurement.
Is the one-off test included in annual membership?
Do not assume that it is. The membership and one-off test are separate offerings; ask for the inclusions of the membership proposed to you.
